Ingredients

  • 1 chicken stock cube  (OXO Brand)
  • 1 beef stock cube  (OXO Brand)
  • 1/3 cup (85 mls) port
  • 1 and 2/3 cups (415ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder 
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder 
  • 1 tsp coarsely crushed whole black peppercorns
  • 1/4 tsp Salt (to taste)
  • Cornflour and water for thickening (user choice on how thick to make this)

Directions

  1. Crumble cubes into boiling water, mix to dissolve.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Add onion, garlic powder and pepper. Mix into butter with a whisk.
  4. Add stock, port and salt into the pan and boil/simmer for a few mins.
  5. Mix up cornflour and water to form a paste in a separate container.
  6. Stir the paste into the saucepan for 1.5 – 2 minutes until it thickens to a gravy consistency.
  7. Can also remove 1/2 the stock mixture at point 4 if serving 2 people. This serves 4.
