Ingredients
- 1 chicken stock cube (OXO Brand)
- 1 beef stock cube (OXO Brand)
- 2 cups (500ml) boiling water
- 30g butter, unsalted (optional)
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp finely ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- Cornflour and water for thickening (user choice on how thick to make this)
Directions
- Crumble cubes into boiling water, mix to dissolve.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add onion, garlic powder and pepper. Mix into butter with a whisk.
- Add stock and salt into the pan and boil/simmer for a few mins.
- Mix up cornflour and water to form a paste in a separate container.
- Stir the paste into the saucepan for 1.5 – 2 minutes until it thickens to a gravy consistency.
- Taste, add more salt and pepper if needed (probably won’t).
- Can also remove 1/2 the stock mixture at point 4 if serving 2 people. This serves 4.

NOTE: I tried the original first, I found it had too much flour and butter flavour and was too thick of my liking. I’ve reduced the flour and butter then increased the pepper. I found it also needed a bit of salt even though it had the stock cubes so season to taste.
